HEALTH and NUTRITION

Dr Thomas Cowan has written a paper entitled ‘What causes heart attacks ‘ and it makes very interesting reading.  Basically he says that, at any age, if your life style puts your body through long periods of stress, smoking, diabetes, bad nutrition and lack of exercise you are inhibiting the ability of your heart to work correctly, which invariably leads to a malfunction – in other words, a heart attack.
This is a quote from the Daily Express newspaper;
Cardiovascular disease has been identified as the main cause of death in all hospitals in Sabah, at 22.9 percent, compared to other sicknesses.
Make your New Year’s resolution ‘I will not have a heart attack’

See you at Warrior in January!!

Intense Exercise Is a Potent Anti-Aging Strategy

Intense Exercise Is a Potent Anti-Aging Strategy

While it's never too late to start exercising, the earlier you begin and the more consistent you are, the greater your long-term rewards. Having an active lifestyle is really an investment in your future well-being. While diet accounts for the majority of the health benefits you reap from a healthy lifestyle, exercise can be viewed as a “force multiplier” and leveraging agent. Interestingly, strength training has been found to have a beneficial impact on your gene expression — not only slowing aging but actually returning gene expression to youthful levels in seniors who start using resistance training.
I believe that, overall, high-intensity interval training really helps maximize the health benefits of exercise, while simultaneously being the most efficient and therefore requiring the least amount of time. Super slow strength training gives you both the benefits from weight lifting and the benefits from high intensity exercises, making it a truly optimal workout for most people. That said, ideally, you'll want to include a wide variety of exercises for a well-rounded fitness regimen. I also strongly recommend avoiding sitting as much as possible, and making it a point to walk more every day. A fitness tracker can be very helpful for this. I suggest aiming for 7,000 to 10,000 steps per day, and this is in addition to your regular fitness regimen, not in lieu of it.

This sums it up!

RAIN!

As I was debating going out for my evening run tonight, in heavy rain, I remembered this quote:

"There's no such thing as bad weather, just soft people."

SOME QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ABOUT WARRIOR KK

Several people have been asking us questions about Warrior Bootcamp KK, so we thought it best to list them here as Questions & Answers:

Q: Where and when is Warrior KK going to happen?
A: There will be outdoor sessions in different public locations across KK, so that participants can have a choice of places that suit them. There will be 'before-work' sessions on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 6-7am, followed by another session those same days 9-10am (which should suit mothers and non-working people). Then an after-work session 6.30-7.30pm on Mondays and Wednesdays. Eventually there will be 'special' evening sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, called 'Mayhem', together with competitive events, and a Junior Warrior on Saturdays. I hope that answers your question but feel free to ask if not.

Q: How much will it cost?
A: A walk-in ticket for one session will cost RM25. However, we will be selling a one-month unlimited membership for only RM198, or a book of 10 session tickets to be used whenever you like, for the same price. And, we will be offering some special introductory offers on membership - details later.

Q. How will we know we like it before committing?
A: We will offer one free introductory session for a limited period. Those wishing to take advantage of this will have to sign up online, so that we can control numbers - more details later.

Q: I am already fit because I cycle/run/swim. Why do I need Warrior Bootcamp?
A: Actually, we all need it, because it is a physical conditioning programme which will benefit even top athletes. In Penang, Warrior is used by rugby and hockey players, as well as runners and triathletes, and also Dragon Boat racers, to improve their fitness for their various sports.

Q: But I have never done any fitness training. I am also overweight. Can Warrior help me?
A: Absolutely! We aim to introduce you to physical training programmes which will change your life. We will not over face you but offer you the opportunity to get fit, get trim and to lose weight - and to have FUN doing it. We will also give you nutritional advice, to complement the training. Honestly - this could be a life-changing experience for you.

Q: But it's outdoors. What if it rains?
A: Yes, we still train in the rain. It's a great blessing - it will cool you down. But we guarantee that you won't get cold during a training session! And contrary to popular myth, you will not get flu if you get wet (otherwise 65 million UK residents would have permanent flu!). However, you  could catch a chill if you drive home wet and cold in an aircon car - so bring a dry towel and a change of clothing with you.

Q: I am interested in becoming a Coach. Can you tell me more about it?
A: We are looking for a very few more Coaches at the moment. A Coach will ideally be someone who already has a full-time job, and who wishes to earn a fee per session for conducting sessions at various times during our schedule, arranged to suit the lifestyle of the Coach. It is a 'part-time' job for someone with a passion for sports and fitness, who is able to communicate that passion to others by use of his/her own personality. Experience is not necessary - just enthusiasm. Full training will be given by the Big Boss, Conor McManus from Penang, during a series of before and after work sessions to be determined, in the period 6-20 January 2015 - after which the coaches will be certified. If you can't make those dates, but are still interested, we can still arrange for you to be certified in Penang at a later date. PM us if you are interested, or need further info.

Q: Will it be fun?
A: If it wasn't fun, we wouldn't be doing it ourselves. And if it's not fun, no-one would continue doing it. Yes - our commitment is that you'll have fun whilst getting fit. Honestly!

DAILY EXPRESS - "EXPANDING WAISTLINES WEIGH HEAVY ON M'SIA"

Fri Nov 28 2014

Just a few extracts from the article:

"Malaysia is Southeast Asia's fattest country"

"We are the most obese nation in Southeast Asia, and Malaysians are becoming more and more obese"

"Nearly 45% of Malaysian men and almost half of women are overweight or obese" according to UK medical journal Lancet - compared to global rates of around 30%

"Already, some 2.6 million adults have diabetes, a figure authorities expect to spike to 4.5 million in 2020"

"Malaysians are among the world's top per-capita sugar consumers"

"Compounding the issue, languid, tropical Malaysia has historically lacked a strong tradition of active outdoor leisure pursuits, due in part to the sweltering weather, Islamic modesty, and shortage of public spaces for exercise"

WELL - WARRIOR BOOTCAMP KK IS GOING TO CHANGE ALL THAT!

Warrior Bootcamp set to open in Kota Kinabalu in early 2015

Following on the phenomenal success of Warrior Bootcamp Penang, we shall be opening the KK branch in early 2015.

Check out http://bootcamppenang.blogspot.com/ and www.facebook.com/bootcamp.pg for full details of our 'mother' company.

We aim to train everyone - no matter what the starting level - to a standard of fitness that he or she will be proud of. We make no excuses - it's not going to be easy - but it works! We train outdoors, morning and evening, whatever the weather (OK, fair enough, if it snows, we'll cancel). We use a variety of venues all over the KK area. All you do is choose the session that suits you, and just turn up with sports kit and lots of determination. And, we supply the T-shirts!

We integrate the athlete who wants to increase aerobic fitness, or just to cross-train, with the total beginner. Seamlessly. Honestly! Each will be coached at his/her optimal level. We look after every individual and coach him/her to the limit of that person's ability - and beyond. We show you that there are no limits. And we never leave anyone behind.

Yes, we still train in the rain. It's a great blessing - it will cool you down. But we guarantee that you won't get cold during a training session! And contrary to popular myth, you will not get flu if you get wet (otherwise 65 million UK residents would have permanent flu!). However, you  could catch a chill if you drive home wet and cold in an aircon car - so bring a towel and a change of clothing with you.

And I forgot to say - we make it fun!

So, watch this space for further exciting news!
